For many career options and jobs (especially the trades) it is essential that you have a drivers licence.  As it takes some time to get your full licence, we recommend that you start the process early.  The information on this page is to assist you in getting your licence as soon as possible.

Defensive Driving

Completing a defensive driving course will reduce the time you need to get your full licence by six months. Defensive driving courses are held on site at Westlake Boys High School.  These involve four sessions – held after school for two to four weeks in a row.

All 4 sessions mandatory.

The course costs $195 if booked online.

Credits for your drivers licence

Once you have gained your drivers licence you are able to claim credits for these.

 

Students can obtain up to 8 NCEA credits by passing tests for the Class 1 driver licence

  • A Learner’s Class 1 driver licence counts towards NCEA Level 1 (2 credits).
  • A Restricted Class 1 driver licence counts towards NCEA Level 2 (4 credits).
  • A Full Class 1 driver licence counts towards NCEA Level 2 (2 credits).

 

Please come to the Careers Centre for a form or you can download and complete the form below.  Completed forms must be brought into the Careers Centre and original drivers licences must be sited.
